Earth day is considered as the awakening of considerable senses for the protection and further development of go green attitude for the earth. It is celebrated on the 22nd April of each year. Earth day was first organized in 1970 to promote ecology and respect for life on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air, water and soil pollution. Celebration of this important day thus aims to inspire awareness and appreciation for earth's environment.
This year’s theme is: ‘The face of climate change’. In the face of unprecedentedoccurrences of extreme weather, loss of species, and pollution, it is clear that climate change is affecting our planet. We cannot afford to wait any longer to act.
Typical ways of observing Earth Day include planting trees, picking up roadside trash, conducting various programs for recycling and conservation, signing of petitions to governments, calling for stronger or immediate action to stop global warming and to reverse environmental destruction.
